First base will be a secure spot on the USC baseball team again in 2024. Saturday afternoon Gavin Casas announced he is withdrawing his name from the MLB Draft and will return to play for the Gamecocks for one more season.
Casas was a major contributor to the success of this past season as the Gamecocks played in super regional. The transfer from Vanderbilt played and started in 61 games and batted .259 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs.
In the field, Casas committed five errors in 403 chances, a fielding percentage of .988.
At least on paper, the Gamecocks will have their starting corner infielders returning next season with Casas back at first and Talmadge LeCroy at third.
