One of the state’s top prospects in the 2024 class, WR Braylon Staley of Aiken, announced a commitment to Tennessee this afternoon. He chose the Vols over North Carolina. Staley made official visits this month to those two along with Miami and Clemson. When Clemson offered at their junior day in late January, he appeared to be a favorite of receivers coach Tyler Grisham and head coach Dabo Swinney. But the Tigers eventually took commitments from two other receivers in TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco and are awaiting a decision from a third receiver in Mike Matthews, so their interest subsided. As for USC, the Gamecocks never made a strong play for Staley as they’ve put most of their efforts in a similar speedster in North Carolina, Jonathan Paylor. Staley is not only a top receiver, he’s also one of the state’s premier track athletes. He won the triple-jump and the 200 meters in the 4A State Championships this past spring.

INF Parker Noland is transferring from Vanderbilt to USC. Noland is the player for Vandy who hit two grand slams and had 11 RBIs in one game against Mississippi State this season. Noland bats left and throws right. The Knoxville native played 192 games in four seasons with the Commodores. This season he batted .277 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs. He committed seven errors with a .984 fielding percentage. He was selected by the Marlins in the 31st round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Transfers to the USC baseball program for the 2023 class:

  • AUSTIN BRINLING OF NORTH FLORIDA
  • GARRETT GAINEY LHP LIBERTY
  • TYLER DEAN RHP VIRGINIA TECH
  • TY GOOD RHP COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
  • KENNEDY JONES OF UNC GREENSBORO
  • DALTON REEVES C PRESBYTEIAN
  • BLAKE JACKSON OF CHARLOTTE
  • PARKER NOLAND INF VANDERBILT

USC women basketball fans can expect another commitment soon for the program. Head coach Dawn Staley Thursday tweeted out her commitment alert to her followers. Staley did not indicate which class the commitment will be in. She has five commitments for her 2023 class and none for 2024.

Clemson offered 2024 6-7 Micah Smith of Tyrone, GA. Mississippi State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Memphis and others also have offered Smith.

SC State offered 6-7 Troy McCoy Jr. of Windsor, CT. He’s the son of former USC forward Troy McCoy who played for the Gamecocks from 1989-93.
