It only took a pair of visits to Clemson for SAF Ricardo Jones (6-3 200) of Warner Robins, GA to know that’s where he wanted to play his college football. Jones announced his commitment to the Tigers late Tuesday afternoon.
He picked the Tigers over Florida State though Clemson was his only official visit after he canceled out on the Seminoles last weekend. He also visited Clemson in March to watch a spring practice and that’s when he was offered by safeties coach Mickey Conn.
“It was one of the offers I was waiting on,” Jones said in March. “I know Clemson is real selective on their offers. They were just waiting on me to come up. I’ve been waiting to come up and I’ve been waiting to get that offer, so getting it means a lot to me.”
On that visit, Jones said everything at Clemson just looked like a good fit for him.
“From facilities, all the brand new dorm rooms, it’s not even dorm rooms, they’re really apartments, everything is nice,” Jones said. “You can fish everywhere. I love fishing, so there’s a lot of spots to fish. It’s perfect.”
Jones also made unofficial visits to Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee and Alabama during his recruitment. Some of his other offers were USC, Stanford, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Michigan and Texas.
Jones was limited to six games last season due to injuries but still managed 38 tackles and six interceptions. He gives Clemson 13 total commitments for their 2024 class, all from out of state. He’s their sixth commitment from Georgia and second at safety.
