Kerry Tharp will retire as Darlington President in November

Change is coming in the top leadership at Darlington Raceway. Kerry Tharp, track President since 2016, announced Thursday morning that he will retire from the position at the end of his NASCAR season in November. His replacement has been determined and will be announced soon according to Tharp.

Tharp led a management team that has been responsible for continued growth and upgrades at the old Pee Dee track. The promotion of the throw-back weekend with their spring race has become one of the most anticipated spots on the schedule, and the Southern 500 on Labor Day Weekend is now positioned as the first race of the playoffs.

Tharp also oversaw the return of live sporting events in America during the pandemic of 2020 with Darlington hosting three events in May of that year.

Thursday night Tharp joined us on SportsTalk and gave a deep dive into his decision to retire.
