Johnson also has offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Florida, State, Illinois, Louisville, Iowa State, Oregon State, UCF, Cincinnati and Indiana among others.
Gray has established his recruiting turf with Johnson and their relationship figures to grow stronger over the next few weeks.
“It’s been going good. I’ve got an official visit with them the first weekend in June,” Johnson said. “The relationship with Coach Gray has been good. He hits me up and lets me know about the school all the time and tells me how I could fit there as a corner. He likes my athleticism, physicality and my length. He likes that I can press up.”
Johnson is familiar with Gray’s work with the Gamecocks and is impressed with his history coaching cornerbacks.
“They develop their corners,” Johnson said. “I like Coach Gray. I can trust him.”
Following the official visit with USC, Johnson is scheduled to see Pitt, Oregon State and West Virginia. He plans to make a decision during his season. He also said UCF is showing strong interest, but he doesn’t need to take an official there since he lives close by.
Johnson was a receiver as a freshman and sophomore and moved to corner last season. He will be featured there this season though he expects to play receiver as well. Johnson said he had over 30 tackles last season but no interceptions because no one threw his way.
