USC head men’s basketball coach Lamont Paris will have a great Memorial Day weekend. That’s because Meechie is coming back. After taking part in the NBA’s G League camp in Chicago last week, transfer guard Meechie Johnson announced via social media on Tuesday that he is returning to Carolina.

Tuesday’s announcement doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as Johnson hinted at the possibility of returning to Columbia following USC’s departure from the SEC tournament. The transfer from Ohio State served as the Gamecocks’ starting point guard for the entirety of this past season, averaging 12.7 points and 3.6 assists a game for USC.

Clearly, his best game last season came in the 71-68 upset of Kentucky in Lexington on January 10th. Johnson tallied 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field, including 6-of-10 from three. He also collected six rebounds and dished out six assists in the win over the Wildcats.
