Fresh off being named the ACC Player of the Week, Clemson’s Billy Amick didn’t rest on his laurels, instead adding to his hitting binge by driving in five runs in the Tigers’ 12-2 victory over USC Upstate at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Tuesday. Over the last five games, all Clemson wins, Amick is 13-for-23 with two homers, five doubles and 14 RBI’s.

USC Upstate (34-19) had won eight of its last ten but ran into an even hotter club as the sixth-ranked Tigers picked up their ninth straight victory. In addition to laying claim to its last six ACC series, Clemson has won 14 of its last 15 non-conference games. Offensively, the Tigers have been on a tear, averaging 11.6 runs over the last five games.

Amick finished 2-for-2 with a double and a sacrifice fly. Benjamin Blackwell backed Amick’s big night with a three-run homer and Will Taylor scored three of the four times he reached base. Joe Allen (3-0) secured the victory with two scoreless frames before giving way to the bullpen. Nick Hoffman, Rocco Reid, Jay Dill, Jackson Lindley and BJ Bailey gave up just two runs in a combined six innings of work (game was stopped in eighth due to 10-run rule).

Clemson (36-17) closes out the regular season with a three-game set at home against North Carolina. The series between the Tigers and the Tar Heels is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., Thursday.
