#STRecruiting: Syracuse DE Jatius Geer will transfer to #Gamecocks

DE Jatius Geer will join USC this season (Syracuse Athletics)

One of the positives of the NCAA Transfer Portal is it gives players an opportunity to go back home and play right away. That’s the case for former Syracuse DE Jatius Geer (6-6 255). He announced Thursday afternoon he will continue his career at South Carolina, roughly ninety minutes from his high school alma mater of Belton-Honea Path. He took an official visit with the Gamecocks last weekend.

Geer may be able to help address a serious need on the Gamecocks’ defense. They lost two contributors from last season at the edge position in Jordan Burch and Gilbur Edmond, who transferred to Oregon and Florida State respectively. They combined for 99 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

In his two seasons with the Orange, Geer collected 34 tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Geer becomes the 11th transfer from another program to commit to or join the Gamecocks for the 2023 season.
