Clemson and Boston College traded blows through the early to middle innings, swapping the lead back and forth, until the Tigers asserted their dominance with a four-run seventh inning on their way to a 9-7 victory in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Brighton, Mass., Friday.
Caden Grice had another big day at the dish, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI’s and his 11th home run of the season. Blake Wright also went deep, a three-run shot that put the Tigers ahead 4-2 in the fourth. BC fought back to take the lead back in the fifth before Grice’s homer knotted it back up in the sixth. Grice also had a two-run double as part of Clemson’s seventh-inning rally.
Nick Clayton (4-0) picked up the win in relief after giving up two runs over four innings. Ryan Ammons retired all three batters he faced in the ninth to pick up his second save. Clemson (27-16, 10-9) extended two streaks with the win, having now won five straight games and its last ten matchups with Boston College (28-13, 12-10).
