Shane Beamer took his USC football team back inside Williams-Brice Stadium Tuesday morning for the first time since defeating Tennessee there last November for the last scrimmage of spring practice prior to Saturday night’s Garnet & Black Game. The Gamecocks ran roughly 80 plays in a scrimmage Beamer said was dominated by the defense.
Beamer said the offense did recover from a slow start and did some good things in situational drills later in the scrimmage, but he was most impressed by the play of the defensive front which he said basically shut down the running game.
Beamer did not cite any major injuries coming out of the scrimmage but noted he has several banged up players, especially in the secondary. He and the staff will split up the healthy players for the spring game which will follow two final practices on Thursday and Friday.
