Senior Day: #Gamecocks win slugfest over Georgia, 61-55 (AUDIO)

South Carolina snapped a 3-game losing streak by scoring the final 5 points of the game to defeat Georgia 61-55 on Senior Day before 10,221 fans in Colonial Life Arena.

The win was the first home conference win of the year for the Gamecock men, who finish the regular season 11-20 overall, 4-14 in conference play. The Bulldogs wind up 16-15, 6-12 in SEC action as both teams prepare to travel to Nashville for the conference tournament.

Meechie Johnson, despite not hitting a 3-pointer, led the Gamecocks with 18 points and 7 assists. Other double figure scorers for USC were Jacobi Wright with 14 and Hayden Brown with 13. Josh Gray led all players with 13 rebounds as the Gamecocks dominated by a 40-25 margin on the glass.

Neither team shot the ball well from the field. The Gamecocks were 20-52 overall (38.5%) and an abysmal 2-14 from behind the arc (14.3%), while UGA was 19-51 (37.3%) overall and 5-23 from three (21.7%).

UGA was stellar from the line, making 12-13 free throws (92.3%), but attempted 18 less FT’s than the Gamecocks, who finished 19-31 (61.3%), but more importantly, made 5 of their final 6 from the line to secure the victory.
