Littlejohn Coliseum, Clemson: Clemson raised the school record for regular season ACC wins to 14 Saturday easily dispatching Notre Dame 87-64 on Senior Night at sold out Littlejohn Coliseum. With the win, the Tigers clinched third place in the standings and the #3 seed in next week’s tournament in Greensboro. They will play in the final quarterfinal round game Thursday night.
ACC Tournament Bracket
Tim Bourret of Clemson noted it’s just the second time since 1990 and just the eighth time in the 70 year history of the ACC Clemson has been as high as a #3 seed for the tournament.
The Tigers led wire to wire and put the Irish away quickly. They started off red hot from the floor hitting 10 of their first 15 shots, including four three-pointers, and built a 17 point lead seven minutes in. Notre Dame never responded.
Clemson led by 19 at the half and eventually grew the lead to 27 points in the second half. Brad Brownell was able to clear his bench in the final minutes and let his five seniors, including veterans Hunter Tyson, Brevin Galloway and Alex Hemenway, soak in what they hope will be their final game at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Tigers do not want to return for an NIT game.
Clemson finished with a 51% shooting night including 13 three-pointers. All five starters scored in double figures with Hunter Tyson and Ian Schieffelin leading the way with 16 points each. Tyson also had 13 rebounds for his 16th career double-double. Schieffelin went 7-7 from the floor, including a three, and grabbed six boards.
PJ Hall, who topped 1000 career points in the game, had another solid outing with 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Chase Hunter scored 14 points with four three-pointers, handed out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds. And Brevin Galloway scored 13 points and knocked down three from distance.
Clemson finished the regular season 22-9 overall and 14-6 in the ACC. They won four of their last six following a three game losing streak.
