USC ran their early season record to 5-0 Wednesday with a 12-0 win over Queens at Founders Park. The Gamecocks have scored in double figures in all five games, the first time they’ve done that since 1987, though they hit only one home run Wednesday giving them 20 on the season. The shutout is the first of the season for the pitching staff.
Caleb Denny drove in five runs while Gavin Casas had three hits, including an SEC best fourth home run. James Hicks started and picked up his second win of the season. He struck out five over five innings while allowing two hits and two walks. Matthew Becker, Austin Williamson and Dylan Eskew did not allow a hit the rest of the way.
The Gamecocks resume their season opening homestand Friday with the first of a three game series against Penn.
