USC had another big offensive day Saturday in their 17-1 win over UMass-Lowell at Founders Park. The 17 runs followed a 20 run performance Friday in the season opener. The Gamecocks compressed all of their scoring into the first five innings and they hit four more homers.
Will McGillis, who had two home runs Friday, had another one Saturday. Braylen Wimmer also went yard for the second straight day, this time with a grand slam. He had five RBIs on the day. The other home runs came off the bats of Gavin Casas and Caleb Denny.
Noah Hall started for USC and earned the win. He pitched 5.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out four. The four relievers who followed Hall did not allow a baserunner. And for the second straight game, the USC defense did not commit an error.
The Gamecocks will go for the sweep of the season opening series Sunday afternoon with Jack Mahoney going to the mound.
