LB Sammy Brown (6-2 220) of Jefferson, GA is one of the top athletes in the Peach State for the 2024 class. Not only does he standout in football as a linebacker and running back, he’s also one of the top 100-meter sprinters in the state.
Brown has been a frequent visitor to Clemson, most recently for their junior day January 28th. Brown was already familiar with what Clemson has to offer, but the visit was a good opportunity for a refresher.
“It was just really fun. We were able to go on campus and get a feel for campus a little bit, go into the business building and tour the facility a little bit more,” Brown said. “We were able to see the new add-on that they have for NIL and whatnot. It was a really good experience but also really cool to see some new stuff and learn more. The new CAB (Clemson Athletics Branding Institute) area is pretty cool. We took most of our recruiting pictures and all that stuff in there. I thought it was really cool and I think it’s a great add-on.”
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and linebackers coach Wes Goodwin have been all over Brown from a recruiting standpoint, and they continued to make positive points with him during his last visit. He was very interested in what Swinney had to say to the visiting prospects about the current state of the Clemson program.
“I thought it was kind of cool. He talked about his upbringing and how he got to where he is today,” Brown said. “He also talked about his vision for Clemson, what he’s going to do and what he has done. He talked about how Clemson develops players and how they’ve never had a No. 1 recruiting class but they’re always top-five in draft picks. I think he builds his program around Christianity and that’s something that I can really appreciate. He’s just done a really great job at Clemson.”
Brown is a national recruit with offers from coast to coast. Florida State is his newest offer coming in on Tuesday. Some of his others are USC, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Notre Dame and Colorado, He’s not yet cut down his list, but no doubt Clemson will be on it when he does.
“I really like Clemson. I think they have one of the best cultures in college football,” he said. “They’ve done a great job over the past couple of years. They signed a great class and I think they’ll sign a great class next year and that’s mainly because of Coach Swinney’s vision for the program and what he’s done with it over the past couple of years.”
Brown said now that he’s segueing into the track season, he doesn’t have any other visits planned for the near future.
Last season Brown totaled 113 tackles with five tackles for loss, four pass break ups and a sack. He also rushed for 1459 yards and 21 touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns.
