Coastal Carolina football celebrated New Year’s Day with quite a piece of recruiting news: Grayson McCall is coming back to school. McCall, according to multiple reports, withdrew from the transfer portal on Sunday and will reportedly return to Conway.  The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native played in CCU’s bowl loss to East Carolina last week, despite placing his name in the transfer portal back on December 12th.

24/7 Sports stated that McCall was initially expected to visit Auburn shortly after entering the transfer portal. However, that visit was reportedly canceled due to an academic issue.

McCall threw for 2,700 yards and 24 touchdowns with only two interceptions this season. The three-time Sun Belt Conference “Player of the Year” has passed for over 8,000 yards and 78 TDs during his career while completing seventy-plus percent of his passes. He would have two seasons left to play in college should he choose to utilize the NCAA’s COVID waiver issued to players who participated during the 2020 season.
