Tuesday Clemson coach Dabo Swinney told the media standout linebacker Trenton Simpson would not play in the Orange Bowl after reinjuring his ankle in the ACC Championship Game. When asked about Simpson’s future plans, Swinney told the media he knew them but would let Simpson share them. Simpson did that Wednesday announcing he will will not return for the 2023 season and will enter the NFL Draft.

Based on his ranking by Pro Football Focus, Simpson is probably making the right decision about his career. He is rated the #1 linebacker for the 2023 Draft. Here is the PFF analysis:

“Simpson is everything you are looking for in a modern coverage linebacker. After playing the slot last season, he’s kicked into the box this year, where he’s not looked out of place. He’s allowed only 18 catches and 144 yards across 28 targets in coverage.”

Simpson played in 33 games with the Tigers. He totaled 165 tackles with 23 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He also broke up 5 passes and forced 3 fumbles.
