#Clemson makes the “Top 4” in first College Football Playoff rankings

If the college football playoffs started this weekend, the Clemson Tigers would square off with Tennessee in the national semifinals. That’s because the Volunteers are ranked number one, with the Tigers snagging the number four spot in the initial release of the CFP rankings on Tuesday. Ohio State and Georgia would face off in the other semifinal, with the national championship game set for Monday, January 9th in Los Angeles.

Of course, the playoffs don’t begin this weekend, and the Tigers have plenty of work left before the final ranking comes out on Sunday, December 4th. Earlier today, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said he wasn’t concerned about where his team would be ranked tonight, saying it wouldn’t matter unless they were telling them where they were playing in the postseason tonight. Swinney may be correct in his casual reaction to Tuesday’s unveiling. The top four teams in the initial rankings have never all made the playoff.

Clemson travels to Notre Dame this Saturday.
