Georgia will come to Columbia #1 in AP poll; #Clemson remains #5

Georgia will return to Columbia Saturday ranked #1 in the AP poll (SEC Provided)

USC is a 16-point underdog against Georgia for this Saturday afternoon’s game at Williams-Brice Stadium, and now the Gamecocks will have the added incentive of playing the nation’s top-ranked team. Georgia moved to #1 in the AP ranking Sunday afternoon thanks to a blowout win over Samford and Alabama’s one-point win at Texas. The Bulldogs received 53 first place votes to 9 for Alabama. Ohio State is ranked third and got the remaining first place vote. Michigan completed the fop four.

Clemson remained fifth in the media balloting, The Tigers are 2-0 and were not totally dominant in defeating Furman Saturday. The Tigers gained five points in the voting from a week ago. They are followed in the top ten by Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Arkansas.

Last week USC received one vote for 24th place, but after the Arkansas loss, the Gamecocks did not receive a vote this week.
