Head coach Shane Beamer and several players addressed the media, Tuesday, following South Carolina’s 35-14 season-opening victory over Georgia State. As was expected, the hottest topics during the press conference were special teams, key injuries and the preparations for Saturday’s SEC opener at Arkansas.

When asked about game planning for the size and strength of Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson, Beamer and players alike echoed the need for a “gang tackling” mentality. Praise for the special teams unit, and coordinator Pete Lembo, was mentioned by every player who spoke. Defensive players compared their mindsets to that of a sniper, where one must be strategic with their attacks, and when attacking, to attack with precision and strength.

Beamer also updated injuries, noting that running back Christian Beal-Smith practiced today and should play this weekend. Wide receiver Corey Rucker is “very doubtful,” while offensive lineman Jake Moore and defensive back RJ Roderick are both questionable. Kickoff for the Gamecocks conference opener at Arkansas is set for noon, Saturday.
