Clemson captured another one of their highly coveted recruiting targets Sunday when WR Ronan Hanafin (6-2 205) of Cambridge, MA announced a commitment to the Tigers over Notre Dame, Alabama and Boston College. He took official visits to all four in June.
Clemson receivers coach Tyler Grisham targeted Hanafin early and had him in for a visit the last weekend in March. Grisham impressed upon Hanafin the history Clemson has in developing receivers for the NFL, and the opportunity that will await him with the Tigers in 2023.
“We’re always talking on the phone or texting. He’s been great about it,” Hanafin said of Grisham earlier this year. “He sees me as a boundary receiver, being able to go up and get the ball. They are recruiting me a little bit on defense (safety), but mainly for wide receiver right now, so like the slot or boundary receiver mainly.”
Hanafin said he’s also well versed on the historical high level of production by the Clemson offense over the last ten years.
“Obviously, they have a great passing offense,” Hanafin said. “I’ve been in contact with a couple of QBs there, like Cade (Klubnik), I’ve been texting back and forth with him. He’s a great kid and we’ll be able build that relationship a little bit.”
Hanafin also had offers from Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Southern Cal, LSU, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan. Besides his official visits, he also made unofficial stops at Alabama, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Maryland and Penn State.
Hanafin is the second receiver commitment for the Tigers in their 2023 class and their 20th overall. All of the commitments are from outside of South Carolina.
