#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks land two-way standout Vicari Swain

Vicari Swain

DB and WR Vicari Swain (6–0 175) of Carrollton, GA Friday publicly announced a commitment to USC over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Georgia, Duke and Maryland also were strong contenders at one time. Swain was recruited to USC by head coach Shane Beamer, secondary coach Torrian Gray and receivers coach Justin Stepp.

Gray and Stepp want him for their positions, and both will get a piece of him.

“They like me as a corner and receiver,” Swain said in June. “From what the players told me, the coaches are good at developing them. Coach Beamer is outgoing, a passionate guy.”

Swain said earlier this week there were several other factors that came into play when he decided on USC.

“Relationship with the coaches, relationship with the players, the facilities, the fans and atmosphere,” Swain said in explaining what stood out the most about the Gamecocks.  “The coaches were constantly checking on me every day, Facetiming me, texting my mom.  They are like family. They stuck with me through the whole way of my recruiting, since the beginning. What really impressed me is their fan base is top, a huge fan base.”

Swain added that he sees a chance for early playing opportunities somewhere on the field with the Gamecocks in 2023, and that, too, was appealing to him.

“I can see myself playing early, a little bit, if I’m ready,” Swain said.  “They want me to play both sides.  I should have a chance to get in on something because they want me to play as an athlete who can do whatever.”

Last season Swain caught 55 passes for 855 yards and 8 touchdowns, and he had 28 total tackles with 6 interceptions.

Swain gives the Gamecocks 17 commitments for their 2023 class.
