The 2024 recruiting class in South Carolina will feature at least three highly acclaimed offensive linemen in Kam Pringle of Woodland, Blake Franks of Greenville and Josiah Thompson of Dillon. All three have offers from USC and Clemson, plus multiple Power Five offers from outside the state.
Thompson (6-7 290) also has an offer list of USC, Clemson, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Miami, Duke, Tennessee, Florida State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Louisville, Michigan State, Georgia and LSU. This summer he camped at USC and Alabama and made unofficial visits to those two along with Clemson and Miami.
“The recruiting process is going great,” Thompson said. “I’m starting to add schools to my list, so that will be coming soon. Recruiting is going awesome. I might start narrowing my list down after my junior season.”
Thompson said he did grow up a USC fan. In fact, his father was a walk-on offensive lineman for the Gamecocks during the Brad Scott days.
“South Carolina stands at a high point. It most definitely will be one of my top schools,” Thompson said. “I’ve been in contact with South Carolina since my freshman year. That was my first offer. I was actually in contact with coach Eric Wolford when he was the offensive line coach there. Now he’s at Alabama, so I’m speaking with coach Greg Adkins.”
That Gamecock staff under Will Muschamp identified Thompson early as a prospect, and the Shane Beamer staff could be the benefactor.
“What I like about South Carolina right now is the atmosphere and the coaches,” Thompson said. “You can talk to the coaches anytime, and they make time for you.”
Thompson also has Clemson on his mind, much like he does with USC.
“I’d say about the same thing,” Thompson said. “I’ve been talking to coach Thomas Austin. The relationship is getting stronger.”
As for the out of state teams, Thompson said Miami is making the hardest push with Alabama also a factor. He said he will go to games this fall at USC and Clemson.
