OT Oluwatosin Babalade of Hyattsville, MD said earlier in the week he was close on his decision and wasn’t planning to visit any schools during this last live recruiting week before the start of August camps. He had planned to announce his commitment on Sunday. But as is often the case in tight recruiting battles, plans change.
Babalade was first going to visit Maryland this weekend, and he still might later today before the recruiting dead period, but instead he drove down to USC with an uncle for a final visit with Shane Beamer and a final check on things with the Gamecocks.
“There just some things that came up last minute that I had to do some extra checking just to make sure everything was good,” Babalade said. “It was good. I had a great time. “It was mainly about the people. I got that family feeling. And I definitely ate a lot.”
Babalade left Columbia around 1:00 AM Sunday morning, but before departing he had another conversation with Beamer.
“We talked for a little, chatted it up,” Babalade said. “He said this is home and he’ll be waiting for me.”
That wait shouldn’t be too long. Babalade said he’s down to USC and Maryland and is now planning to announce a decision this week with Wednesday or Friday currently the target dates.
