WR Carmelo Taylor (6-0 170) of Roanoke, VA is set to announce his college commitment Sunday afternoon. He plans to bring family and friends together at a location in Roanoke and then stream his announcement live on Instagram starting around 3:30-3:45 PM. His final schools were USC, Virginia Tech, Penn State, West Virginia and Maryland.
Taylor said Thursday afternoon he has made his decision.
“It was how the players communicated. I see how the players got along and how it’s a family up there,” Taylor said in explaining why he chose the school he did. “It felt like nobody was arguing and nobody was going at one another. It was like a family thing. Everybody was glad to be there, and I really enjoyed it a lot.”
Taylor added that from the conversations with the coaches at his chosen school, he sees a chance for some early snaps as a freshman.
“They said they’d like to rotate me in a little bit as a freshman so I can get use to it,” he said. “I do like that because the more I get accustomed to the game, the better I’ll perform so I can catch up on things at the college level. And they said I can do both there (track and football). I feel good about the decision. I feel confident about what they can do.”
Taylor took official visits to USC, Virginia Tech and Penn State. He also camped at USC in June and took an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech.
