The off-season officially ended for USC football coach Shane Beamer and his staff Thursday with the second annual Birdies With Beamer Golf Tournament at Cobblestone Park in Blythewood. Once the golf was over, Beamer and staff members met with the media.
Once that was over, the coaches headed back to campus to welcome official visitor OT Elijah Phillipe to campus. There will be more recruits in over the weekend. Next week preparation for the start of practice will continue. Media day for the coaches and players will be Thursday and the first day of practice will be Friday.
Beamer held a formal press conference after the golf outing, in which he did not play but rather rode around the course in a golf cart and greeted the players. Also, offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield and defensive coordinator Clayton White did gaggle sessions with reporters.
One piece of news from Beamer. He announced veteran defensive tackle Rick Sandidge was retiring from football due to ongoing injuries that kept him out all of last season. The redshirt senior from Concord, NC injured his left ankle in the first scrimmage of last fall and had surgery. He was not able to come back from that. In his career, Sandidge played in 34 games and recorded 30 tackles with 4 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
