DE Tyree Weathersby (6-4 250) of Douglasville, GA unveiled a top four on Tuesday of USC, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Tennessee. Friday, Weathersby plans to announce his commitment decision on Twitter and Instagram. But he’s not shutting things down because he plans to take more official visits during the season to USC, Kentucky and Mississippi State.
Weathersby said he does know which of the four schools he’ll be announcing for on Friday.
“The players there, they made me feel like I was already playing on the team,” Weathersby said. “The recruits that have already committed there, the energy is just different with us. As soon as I got there, we hit it off. There was never an awkward moment. The coaches have been showing me the most love because they’ve been the strongest recruiting me out of everybody in my opinion. I talk to the head coach frequently. That’s what I love about the place, they are showing they actually want me and need me.”
Weathersby camped at USC earlier this month and strutted his stuff for defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas and head coach Shane Beamer. They were so impressed with what they saw, they offered him and immediately became one of his favorites.
“I love the Gamecocks man,” Weathersby said. “I went to the camp, got the offer. Coach Lucas said show up and I’ll guarantee you’ll get an offer. That’s what happened. I did good at the camp and got an offer. I talk to them frequently and we have a good relationship.”
Weathersby added that Beamer and Lucas have kept him touch with him, and he last talked with Beamer on Sunday.
“They definitely want me,” Weathersby said. “Coach Lucas is going to have me playing strongside defensive end, like most schools got me at.”
Weathersby is coming off an official visit to Tennessee last weekend, and that was his only official visit in June. The Vols are making a heavy play for him.
“I love Tennessee,” he said. “They told me they’ve got two defensive ends leaving, so I got a chance to come in and play early. Of course, that’s the goal, come play as a freshman in the SEC and do good. Sky is the limit from there. Overall, I loved the visit. The vibe was there, of course. They’ve got one of the biggest stadiums in college football.”
Last season Weathersby totaled over 60 tackles and rolled up 10 sacks.
