#SportsTalk Spring FB Practice Rewind: The Citadel (AUDIO)

Figuring out a starting QB is priority number one for The Citadel (Citadel Athletics)

Citadel head football coach Brent Thompson, much like every other coach in the country, was pleased that his team made it through spring practice without any significant injuries. His second task was bringing up to speed a good bit of new offensive personnel. That includes at quarterback where the Bulldogs had two true freshmen and a sophomore battling for the starting job with the possibility of adding a transfer still on the table.

Thompson joined SportsTalk shortly after the Bulldogs wrapped up their spring workouts and when asked how long the QB battle might last, he looked to the season opener as the finish line for that competition. “Ideally I would like to have somebody going into the Campbell game in September.”

Despite going 4-7 last year, the Bulldogs carry a little momentum into next season having claimed back-to-back wins over Wofford and Chattanooga to close out the fall. Further, the bulk of the defense is returning and the team will actually get a little rest over the next few months, which has not been the case recently.

“We practiced or played football in 206 out of like 400 and something days,” Thompson pointed out when asked about his team’s recent schedule. Due to the pandemic, The Citadel played four games in the fall of 2020, eight contests in the spring of 2021, and a full eleven game slate this past season.

The Citadel kicks off the 2022 campaign on September 3rd at Campbell.
