Fiery hot #Clemson scalds no. 22 Wofford, 17-4 (AUDIO)

Clemson homered five times and racked up 17 hits in the Tigers’ 17-4 win over no. 22 Wofford at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Wednesday. Third baseman Max Wagner led the barrage, going deep twice and driving in six runs. Wagner is tied for second in the ACC with 19 home runs, two back of leader Kevin Parada (Georgia Tech). Left fielder Tyler Corbitt homered for the second straight game and picked up four RBI as part of the rout.

The red-hot Tigers have won nine of ten and eight straight non-conference games. Clemson’s offense, in particular, has hit its stride recently, averaging 9.7 runs/game since April 12th. The Tigers succeeded in scoring in each of the first five innings, dashing out to an insurmountable lead. Righthander Jay Dill picked up his first career win with two scoreless frames in relief of Nick Clayton.

Clemson (28-14) returns to conference play with a trip to Louisville this weekend. Game 1 against the 10th-ranked Cardinals is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday.
