Clemson cranked out five home runs, including two by Caden Grice, to roll past 23rd ranked Wake Forest 10-8 Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem. The Tigers won the ACC series two games to one for their first league series win of the season. The Tigers also won their sixth straight series over the Demon Deacons.

The Tigers fell behind 3-0 after an inning as starter Nick Clayton allowed a two-run homer and an RBI double. Casey Tallent and Geoffrey Gilbert pitched the next 4.2 innings allowing one run, and the Tigers eventually caught up and built a 10-4 lead. Grice’s two homers accounted for three runs. Max Wagner matched that with a three-run homer and brought home a fourth run on a squeeze bunt. Tyler Corbitt had a two-run shot and David Lewis a solo blast.

The Tigers scored five runs in the top of the seventh for that 10-4 lead and appeared to be in complete control. But the Deacons came back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh off Ty Olenchuk who gave up a pair of homers in the rally. PJ Labriola replaced Olenchuk and yielded a two-out single allowing the tying run to come to the plate. Jackson Lindley then came on and got a strike out to end the inning and preserve the lead.

Lindley retired the side in order in the eighth and ninth innings for his first career save. Reliever Geoffrey Gilbert (3-1) earned the win with two hitless and scoreless innings. The Tigers had 13 hits with Benjamin Blackwell leading the way with three. Four other batters had two hits each.

Clemson is 22-13 and 4-10 in the ACC. They will play at Georgia Tuesday night, host East Tennessee Wednesday night, and then take on Florida State this weekend at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
