Tennessee humbles #Gamecocks, 5-2

Michael Braswell and USC have struggled to produce runs in Knoxville this weekend (University of South Carolina Athletics)

South Carolina scratched out just five hits in a 5-2 loss to No. 7 Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday. The Gamecocks (10-8, 0-2) haven’t had an answer for Volunteer pitching this weekend, producing just five runs through the first two games of the series. Brandt Belk and Kevin Madden each homered, but those were the only two extra-base hits registered by the Gamecocks in the loss. USC struck out a dozen times and drew just one walk.

Will Sanders (3-1) suffered his first loss and didn’t have his best stuff, giving up five earned runs over 4.2 innings. Tennessee (18-1, 2-0), the nation’s leader in home runs, launched two against Sanders, Saturday.

The Gamecocks will try to salvage a game in the series at 1 p.m., Sunday.
