
USC dropped the opener of a three-game series with top ranked Texas 9-5 Saturday afternoon at Founders Park. Ivan Melendez hit a pair of homers and drove in five for the Longhorns. Brandt Belk homered for the Gamecocks, part of a 4-5 day at the plate, and scored twice. The Gamecocks have lost five in a row and are 7-6 on the season.
Texas led 4-3, then pushed across three runs in the fifth and two in the eighth to build on their lead. USC starter Noah Hall took the loss after giving up ten hits and seven earned runs over 4.2 innings.
Texas is 13-2. The teams will play a doubleheader Sunday starting at 1:30. Game one will be seven innings.
