South Carolina handled its business in the SEC Semifinals, Saturday, bullying Ole Miss on the boards in route to a 61-51 victory in Nashville. The Gamecocks outscored the Lady Rebels 36-18 in the paint and won the rebounding category 44-28. Aliyah Boston registered her 23rd consecutive double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
USC is on its way to the SEC Tournament Final despite committing 22 turnovers and hitting just 2 of 11 from behind the arc. But the Gamecocks have been winning with defense, and Dawn Staley’s club again held an opponent below 35% shooting. Ole Miss could muster only eight points in the first quarter and trailed 53-30 heading into the fourth. South Carolina has won 17 straight since suffering its only loss, a one-point defeat at the hands of Missouri on Dec. 30th.
The top-ranked Gamecocks (29-1, 15-1) await the winner of Kentucky-Tennessee. The Championship Game of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament from Nashville is scheduled to tip at 2 p.m., Sunday.
