#STRecruiting: North Carolina receiver to check out #Clemson Saturday

Chris Culliver

Clemson will entertain a number of recruits Saturday for a junior day while also staging another spring practice. Among the prospects planning to attend is WR Chris Culliver (6-3 180) of Maiden, NC. He’s also a USC target and was offered by Shane Beamer last summer. Clemson receivers coach Tyler Grisham also likes Culliver a lot and made the invite for him to come in on Saturday.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Grisham a lot,” Culliver said.  “The first time I talked to him, he said he liked my film and he wanted to get me down there.  We talked a couple of times after that, and that’s when we finally decided I’m going to come down there March 5th.  He’s been saying that he likes my film.  He likes that I can go up and get the ball.”

Culliver admitted the attention from Clemson has caught him by surprise, and it’s a thrill to have a chance to talk more with Grisham about a scholarship offer.

“It’s crazy,” Culliver said.  “I love everything about Clemson.  It’s a great school.  It’s just crazy to think that they are recruiting me.  We you think about all the receivers they’ve been producing, like Tee Higgins, it’s just crazy that they keep on doing it.”

Culliver had planned to drop a short list a week or so ago, but now this Clemson visit has caused him to pause that.

“I was going to make one, but once Coach Grisham told me I can come down, I was like, I’ve got to go see that first,” Culliver said.  “I can start to trim my list down for sure (with an offer).”

Beamer got the chance to see Culliver in a seven-on-seven tournament at USC last summer. He was immediately impressed and let Culliver know it. He said he hears from Beamer pretty much on a weekly basis.

“I talked to Coach Beamer about getting up there the other day, and he sent me the dates and he told me to pick any date in April,” Culliver said.  “When he first offered me, it was after a camp, and he said he liked everything I was doing, keep it up, and he hoped that I could play for him one day.”

Culliver said he also wants to visit Michigan State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Miami.

Culliver is one of the top receivers in North Carolina. Last season he had 62 catches for 1310 yards and 26 touchdowns.
