The USC pitching staff has lost another starting pitcher, this time for the season. Coach Mark Kingston said on a Zoom call with the media Thursday that James Hicks will have Tommy John surgery Friday. Hicks was removed early from his start last Saturday after complaining of soreness in his pitching arm.

Two other projected weekend starters, Julian Bosnic and Josiah Sightler, also remain out. Bosnic has yet to throw a baseball this season according to Kingston. Bosnic is dealing with a flexor tendon issue. Sightler will be able to play in the field while still recovering from an oblique injury but won’t pitch this weekend according to Kingston.

Here’s the pitching matchups for the series as announced Thursday by Kingston and Clemson coach Monte Lee:

  • Friday: RHP Will Sanders (2-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. LHP Mack Anglin (2-0, 0.00 ERA)
  • Saturday: TBA vs. RHP NIck Hoffman (1-0, 4.50 ERA)
  • Sunday: TBA vs. RHP Nick Clayton (0-0, 9.53 ERA)
