Hoosier Daddy? #Clemson opens 2022 with 9-0 shutout of IU (AUDIO)

Caden Grice rapped out three hits and scored three runs, Friday (Clemson University Athletics)

Clemson opened its 2022 season in style, rolling to a 9-0 victory over Indiana at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Friday. Mack Anglin and three relievers combined for a dozen strikeouts and limited the Hoosiers to three hits.

The Tigers drew first blood when Cooper Ingle’s 1st-inning single plated Dylan Brewer. Moments later, Chad Fairey drove home Ingle with a single through the right side. Blake Wright capped the rally with another single, scoring Caden Grice and staking Clemson to a 3-0 lead. With one away in the second inning, transfer shortstop Benjamin Blackwell (Dayton) connected for the Tigers only extra-base hit, a solo homer to left. Clemson also showcased remarkable patience at the plate, drawing eight base on balls.

Grice had a banner day, going 3 for 5 with three runs scored while Anglin (1-0) looked the part of a Friday starter, holding the Hoosiers hitless and fanning eight over five innings. Clemson and Indiana will continue the series at 3 p.m., Saturday.
