#STRecruiting: #Clemson OT target Luke Montgomery set to announce next week

One of the top offensive line prospects for the 2023 class is Luke Montgomery (6-5 260) of Findlay, OH. Monday Montgomery revealed on Twitter that he will make his college commitment a week from Thursday. He has publicly narrowed his list to Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Oklahoma. And with Lincoln Riley now at Southern Cal, the Trojans also have been in the conversation.

Montgomery visited Clemson twice with his father, the last time for the Wake Forest game. He did not make it back in January, but his father said late last month those two earlier visits gave the two of them a very good feel for the program Dabo Swinney has constructed.

“I’ve been to Clemson twice and have been super impressed with everything about it to be honest,” Mike Montgomery said. The big thing with Clemson that we feel and see is it’s such a strong faith-based program. I know that starts with Dabo and trickles down.  That’s big to our family.  From a parents’ perspective, it’s one of those places I left, and I said if Luke decides to go to Clemson, I’d be at peace with it because I trust those guys. I know that they will develop him as a human being, football player and student.  I didn’t feel that necessarily everywhere we went that was far away.  That’s why they are where they are with us.”

Clemson, of course, has changed offensive line coaches since the end of the season. Robbie Caldwell retired from his on-field duties and Swinney appointed former Tiger lineman and recent analyst Thomas Austin to the job. Montgomery said the change has had no impact on his son’s feeling toward Clemson.

“We really enjoyed Coach Caldwell.  He was so fun to speak to.  He was great to Luke,” Montgomery said. “We’ve also enjoyed getting to know Coach Austin. We talked to him on the phone one night for like an hour and were super impressed with him.  When I went down with Luke to the Wake Forest game, we got to spend a lot of time with him after the game.  We went out to dinner with him and his wife and Coach (Brandon) Streeter and his family.  Just spending that time with Coach Austin, I just felt a peace as a father as somebody I can trust.  I know he’s going to coach Luke very hard and strong as he should.”

The Montgomerys had to work around Luke’s basketball schedule for January visits. They did get to Ohio State and Notre Dame over the last two weekends. They have a tentative Clemson visit scheduled for March 5th, a visit that hinges on the decision being made later this month.
