One of the visitors in to see USC last weekend for the junior day was SAF Jordan Bass (6-2 190) of Hampton, VA. USC secondary coach Torrian Gray knows the Tidewater area of Virginia well. He also knows the area annually produces outstanding prospects for the defensive backfield. Bass will be one of those in 2022, and Gray got him to visit so he could see first-hand what’s going on in Columbia.
“I love it. I loved the campus, the locker room,” Bass said. “I loved it all. It’s very modern. It’s really something I could get used to. Coach Gray introduced me to a new way to play defense, like one-on-ones. I liked how the concept went.”
Bass said Gray likes him as a strong safety. He had big numbers as a junior with 88 tackles and 5 interceptions. Early on, Bass said he and Gray are doing well in getting to know each other from a football standpoint and personally.
“I liked him,” Bass said. “I feel like I can definitely build a really strong relationship with him and the rest of the staff.”
Bass also got the chance on his visit to talk with USC head coach Shane Beamer.
“Just to get to know him,” Bass said. “He was telling me what the program has to offer, and I took a picture with him. It was pretty good.”
Bass also has offers from Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, Penn State, Boston College and Syracuse. It’s early in the process for him and he’s in no hurry to get to a decision.
“Honestly, I’m still neutral with everything,” Bass said. “I’m not really looking into that. I’m just enjoying the moment right now.” He added that USC, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt are the ones showing the most interest right now.
This weekend Bass plans to visit Penn State, and he’s set to see North Carolina the first weekend of March. He also plans to make a return visit to USC in the spring.
