#STRecruiting: Florida safety loving #Gamecocks after Thursday visit

Cameron Upshaw

The USC coaching staff was on the road recruiting Thursday, but that didn’t stop 2023 SAF Cameron Upshaw (6-1 165) of Perry, FL from making an unofficial visit. Upshaw is being recruited to USC by secondary coach Torrian Gray, and he encouraged him to visit even though he wouldn’t be there. But recruiting assistant Nashan Ellis was there, and he served as the tour guide for Upshaw and his parents.

“The facilities are extremely nice, and I went to see the locker room and it’s beautiful,” Upshaw said.   And the field, from the outside you can tell it’s real big.  Once you get in, it’s still big but you’re close to the fans. I like the city.  When we first got in, I was like, this is for me.  I could see myself living here for three to four years and playing football there.”

It’s still early in the game for Upshaw, and he has more visits to come, but the Gamecocks are right where they would want to be at this point in his recruiting.

“At the very top.  At the very, very top,” Upshaw said. So, is a commitment close? “Not just yet,” he said. “I want to make sure it’s the right spot for me.  I want to make their coaches really recruit me hard and make sure it’s the right place for me.  I’ll probably commit after football season, but my top schools will be coming out sometime during the summer.”

Upshaw added Louisville is second on his list right now behind USC with Iowa and Maryland also high up on his list. This Saturday Upshaw plans to visit Florida State. He said he might return to USC on the last weekend of the month, and he will visit Louisville March 5th.
