#Gamecocks reportedly losing Mike Peterson to Florida

Mike Peterson is return to his alma mater of Florida after six seasons at USC

USC has had a bunch of good news lately with several key defensive players announcing they will return to play for the Gamecocks in 2022. DE Jordan Strachan was the most recent revealing his plans Tuesday. But Strachan and the other defensive ends/outside linebackers will have a new position coach in 2022.

Chris Vannini of The Athletic first reported Tuesday night that Gamecocks defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson has accepted an offer from new Florida coach Billy Napier to coach the same spot at his alma mater and also work as an alumni liaison. The report later was confirmed by Ben Portnoy of The State and other Gamecock media outlets.

Peterson was the last remaining member of the Will Muschamp staff at USC and just completed his sixth season in Columbia.

Peterson was a standout linebacker at Florida under Steve Spurrier and won a national championship with the Gators in 1996. He went on to an outstanding NFL career from 1999-2012. He’s a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
