USC held its first bowl practice in Charlotte Sunday morning as the Gamecocks resumed preparations for Thursday’s Dukes Mayo Bowl game against North Carolina. Coach Shane Beamer said freshman reserve OL JonDarius Morgan is not with the team for the bowl due to a death in his family. Also, Beamer said three reserves, who have not been major contributors this season, are suspended for the bowl game, and there have been no Covid issues at this point.

Also after practice, starting center Eric Douglas revealed he will return to the program for another season in 2022. Starting linebacker Brad Johnson said he is still mulling over his decision and will finalize his plans after Thursday’s games.

The Gamecocks will have practices Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The next media opportunity will be Wednesday when Beamer and players hold a pre-game Zoom session with bowl officials.
