It’s been a roller coaster week for the South Carolina football team. Following Monday’s announcement of Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler’s transfer to USC generated national attention for the program, Wednesday brought news that perhaps deflated that balloon somewhat. Jason Brown, who threw for 721 yards and 8 TDs in seven games this season for Carolina, announced via Twitter that he is entering the transfer portal.
The SaintFrancis transfer wasn’t alone in his decision to leave USC prior to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. Moments after Brown’s news made the social media circuit, defensive end Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare revealed that he would be leaving to prepare for the NFL Draft.
Also Wednesday, reserve tight end Keveon Mullins put his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. And the Gamecocks also lost recruiting commitment Jaishawn Barham, who signed with Maryland over the Gamecocks. The linebacker committed to USC this past Saturday but chose his home state school on signing day. Oklahoma and Penn State were his other finalists.

I think this is a tremendous actually. It’s a business, it’s not amateur, it’s highly profitable. The laborers should benefit from their efforts at a level that is commensurate with their value.
