WR Camden Brown (6-4 205) of Fort Lauderdale has had an active recruiting week. He decommitted from Pitt and entertained recruiters from USC, Auburn, Arizona and Florida State. He also set official visits to Auburn for the weekend and to USC the following weekend. And he decided not to hold off on a decision to February and to announce and sign on December 15th. That means USC will get the last in-person contact with him before the early signing day.
Gamecocks receivers coach Justin Stepp visited Brown earlier this week and was able to convince him to switch a planned visit to Arizona for next weekend to USC.
“Just everything about the school is standing out to me,” Brown said. “The way he talked to me, how he does things, how he is going to use me stood out to me a lot. How he’s going to use me in a pro-style offense is as the X-receiver running go routes. I’m a real deep threat type of guy. That stood out to me a lot. He said he needs me as a player, and he can help me moving forward on in life as well.”
The performance and production of the USC offense this season would not impress most skilled position players who are looking for a high powered, high scoring offense to play in. But Brown said Stepp explained to him the Gamecocks are taking measures to improve the offense immediately.
“He said they are eyeing a couple of people who just hit the Transfer Portal who can run a pro-style type of offense,” Brown said. “They are going to throw the ball a lot with their committed quarterback. And they’re trying to find an older guy for the quarterback room and trying to get better every day.”
Brown said his decision will come down to USC, Pitt, Florida State and Auburn He has visited Pitt and Florida State and Auburn and USC will get their crack at him over the next two weekends. He wants to use these visits to get a feel for the schools outside of football.
“How can I live my life in the next three or four years,” Brown said. “It’s not even about football. What can I major in, what is the business program about? It’s about school and stuff like that.”
This season Brown has had 24 catches for 483 yards and 7 touchdowns.
