The Coastal Carolina football team is coming off its first regular season loss since November 23rd of 2019 at Louisiana-Monroe. That 30-27 defeat at the hands of Appalachian State on Wednesday, knocked the Chanticleers down a few pegs in the national rankings to #24 in both the AP & Coaches polls.
This week, CCU has another mid-week game; its third in a row, as Coastal entertains Troy on Thursday night at 7:30pm on ESPN2. The Trojans are 4-3 on the season, but 2-1 in Sun Belt Conference play which has them in a four-way tie with App State, CCU, and Georgia State for the Sun Belt’s East Division lead. Earlier this month, Troy dropped a 23-14 decision at South Carolina, recording three sacks of USC quarterback Luke Doty. As a matter of fact, Troy leads the nation in the category, recording 31 sacks thus far this season.
On Monday, Coastal head coach Jamey Chadwell held his weekly press conference to review the loss to Appalachian State and preview Thursday’s home date with Troy. The press conference is moderated by CCU Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, Kevin Davis.
Key Comments from Chadwell:
- On the matchup with Troy, “defensively, they’ve played well all year. It’s the best defense we’ve seen this season.”
- “We expect another barn burner, close and down to the wire. That’s the mindset that we’ve got to play with.”
- On reaction to App State loss, “as coaches and players, it’s about the next one. We’ve had good energy and good focus. What can we do better to make sure that doesn’t happen again?”
- As the Sun Belt expands once again with the addition of Southern Mississippi and perhaps others, Chadwell says, “you can either embrace it or complain about it. You better be on the side that embraces it.”
