After a historic 2020 football season in which the Chanticleers won the Sun Belt regular season title and earned the program’s first bowl appearance, many were wondering what Coastal Carolina football would do for an encore. Well so far, the second act has been as good, if not better than the first. CCU is off to a 6-0 start and ranked 15th in both major polls, as the Chanticleers enjoy an open date prior to a nationally televised showdown at league rival Appalachian State next Wednesday.

Coastal has been impressive on both sides of the football, boasting the fourth ranked total offense in the country, buoyed by the 10th best total defense in the land. QB Grayson McCall leads the nation in passing efficiency, hitting on 80% of his passes for 1,478 yards with 14 touchdowns against only one interception.

On Wednesday night, CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell dropped by SportsTalk to recap the first half of the season, discuss what last year taught him about the CFP and “New Year’s Six” bowl games, and to preview next week’s road trip to face the Mountaineers.
