#STRecruiting: #Clemson going deep into the “Woods” for “Top 20” DL

Peter Woods

Clemson is working to pull another top prospect out of Alabama in the 2023 class. DT Peter Woods (6-3 250) of Alabaster was back on campus for the Boston College game last weekend. He also visited in June after being offered by the Tigers, and he plans a third trip for the Florida State game October 30th.

Clemson defensive tackles coach Todd Bates scouted Woods last month, and Woods was able to watch Bates and his guys work in person against the Eagles.

“Defense played good like always. Hard to find a weakness in it unless they make mistakes,” Woods said in evaluating Clemson’s performance. “They had a lot to say to me about what I was going to see in the game. Coach Bates broke down some of the offensive linemen they were about to play. It was almost like I was about to play.”

Bates apparently has done a good job developing a relationship with Woods, who said the comfort level between the two is at a high point.

“I can tell he genuinely cares about the man I become and not just the player,” he said. “He makes sure we talk every day. We have a strong relationship.”

And Woods said having a strong comfort level with a coaching staff will go a long way towards that school landing him.

“The number one thing for me is relationships,” Woods said. “I want to feel comfortable with and trust the coaches and players. And I want to be close with the recruits. Because the team I’m on now, our chemistry is our biggest weapon.”

Also last summer Woods made visits to Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida and UCF.

Woods missed eight of his team’s 14 games in 2020 with a leg injury. He returned for the 7A state championship game and contributed 5 tackles and a tackle for loss. He finished the season with 30 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He had seven sacks in 2019.
