Coastal Carolina is making life miserable on opponents thus far this season, but not just with their offense and defense. For the second time this year, the Chanticleers blocked a punt and turned it into points as CCU blew out Louisiana-Monroe 59-6 in front of a record crowd of 18,674 at Brooks Stadium in Conway.
However, the big story of the game was an injury to CCU starting quarterback Grayson McCall. The Indian Trail, NC native was seen with a walking boot on his left leg during the second half, marking the only thing that went wrong on the day as the Chanticleers improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. Prior to his injury, McCall had a perfect day going, throwing for 212 yards on 13-of-13 passing with two touchdowns.
Isaiah Likely caught all five of his targets to lead CCU in receiving with 95 yards and two scores. Meanwhile, Reese White powered the ground attack with 95 yards rushing on fifteen carries. All told, the Chanticleer offense accumulated 557 yards of total offense, rushing for 275. ULM’s defense entered the game giving up just 76 yards on the ground per contest.

Afterwards, CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell said the decision to put McCall in a boot was just precautionary. Noting that Coastal’s short week with a trip to Arkansas State set for Thursday, made erring on the side of caution appropriate.
