#STRecruiting: Georgia forward commits to #Clemson

Chauncey Wiggins

Clemson basketball coach Brad Brownell took another major talent out of the Peach State Friday morning when 6-9 Chauncey Wiggins of Loganville, GA announced a commitment to the Tigers. Clemson beat out NC State, Maryland and South Florida for Wiggins. He took an official visit to Clemson two weeks ago and was at NC State last weekend.

Wiggins said after his Clemson visit that the Tigers see him as a player similar to current small forward Hunter Tyson.

“He (Brownell) said when Hunter came in, he was 185 (pounds). I can tell that Clemson has developed him. I was basically just watching him,” Wiggins said.

Wiggins was able to catch a practice while at Clemson for his visit, and he walked away impressed with what he saw on and off the court.

“The take-away I got from it was the stuff they do off the court,” Wiggins said. “Don’t get me wrong, their on the court stuff is amazing. Their practice and the way he (Brownell) coaches, I like it. But their off the court stuff, like with their graduation, people come back after they go somewhere and get their degree and graduate. That’s something that I really want to do. And it’s a small town, so everybody knows everybody, everybody cares for each other, and they want them to have great success.”

Last season Wiggins averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds per game. He’s rated a three-star in the 247Sports Composite and ranked the #34 power forward nationally. He is the Tigers’ first commitment for the 2022 class.
