Coastal Carolina is off to a 3-0 start following a 28-25 victory at Buffalo this past Saturday. The win equated to mixed poll results for the Chanticleers as they dropped one spot to 17th in the AP poll, while moving up a notch to 17th in the coaches rankings.
This weekend, Coastal will host UMass at 1pm in Conway. Oddsmakers are anticipating a lopsided win for the home team as CCU has been installed as nearly a five touchdown favorite. The Minutemen are 0-3 on the year, after a 42-28 loss to Eastern Michigan over the weekend. Saturday’s contest will be the fourth in the series with CCU holding a three-games to none lead, including a 62-28 triumph in the teams’ most recent meeting (2019).
On Wednesday, CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell met with the media via Zoom to discuss the matchup with UMass. You can hear the entire press conference below, moderated by CCU Assistant AD for Media Relations Kevin Davis.
Key comments from Chadwell’s presser …
- UMass is a completely different team than the one the Chanticleers blew out in 2019.
- Chadwell is concerned about his team not forcing any turnovers thus far after posting a +13 turnover margin last year.
- Hoping the community and students will come out and support the Chanticleers this week. School is planning a “Teal Out” at Brooks Stadium.
- PK Massimo Biscardi, who missed the Buffalo game due to injury, is day-to-day. Chadwell doesn’t anticipate him kicking this weekend.
