Coastal Carolina is hoping to surpass the attendance record of 17,000+ at Brooks Stadium on Friday vs. Kansas (CCU Athletics)

Coastal Carolina football opened with a 52-14 win over The Citadel last Thursday. The Chanticleers rolled up over 600 yards in total offense against the Bulldogs with quarterback Grayson McCall throwing for 262 yards and one touchdown. Shermari Jones led the CCU rushing attack with 100 yards and two scores.

This Friday, Coastal steps up from FCS to the Big-12 as the Chanticleers play host to Kansas, marking the first time a “Power-5” opponent has visited Conway. The Jayhawks are also 1-0 on the season following a 17-14 victory over South Dakota State last week. Lance Leipold, a six-time National Champion, five-time conference “Coach of the Year”, and the fastest coach in NCAA history to reach 100 career wins, is in his first season as head coach at Kansas.

The matchup will be the third in the series between the Chanticleers and Jayhawks with CCU having won both previous meetings in Lawrence, Kansas. Coastal notched a 12-7 victory in 2019 and a 38-23 win last year. The teal, black, and bronze has been installed as much as a twenty-seven point favorite for the contest at 7:30pm on ESPN2.

On Monday, head coach Jamey Chadwell met with the media via Zoom to look ahead to Friday’s nationally televised contest. He also took a moment to brag about his alma mater’s (East Tennessee State) 23-3 triumph over Vanderbilt this past weekend. The press conference is hosted by CCU Assistant AD for Media Relations Kevin Davis.
